Wow, people are really struggling to get here The problem is...I can't think of the answer! I can hear it jumbling around back there...but I have no idea. I'm sure the answer is in LOTR, and I'm fairly certain it's said by Elrond or Gandalf or someone "great". Unfortunately...that doesn't narrow the field much.

That's been the problem with almost all our questions this round - they're so vague that it's hard to tell which answer matches the Hobbits are wanting from us. Lorien have been just as stumped on most of these as we have.
Anyway, apologies for not being around so much this match - debate exploded on to the scene.
Round 5 Questions Lothlorien: Who kept unwearable garments? Team Hank: What ground had the touch of three Valar?
That on which the Two Trees grew after their destruction by Morgoth? Going to check...

Well, there's no single quote but patching together 3 we might get away with it. I'll keep looking for an alternative answer though.
Also, can we count 'touch' as stepping on the ground?
"And in that very hour Melkor and Ungoliant came hastening over the fields of Valinor, as a shadow of a black cloud upon the wind fleets over the sunlit earth; and they came before the green mound Ezellohar. Then the Unlight of Ungoliant rose even up to the roots of the Trees, and Melkor sprang upon the mound;" The Silmarillion, Of the Darkening of Valinor
"Then Yavanna arose and stood upon Ezellohar, the Green Mound, but it was bare now and black;" The Silmarillion, Of the Flight of the Noldor
"And Nienna arose and went up on Ezellohar, and cast back her hood and with her tears washed away the defilements of Ungoliant;" Ibid.

I've been pondering hard over this, and I do think Ezellohar might be our best bet. At first I was thinking Numenor, but unfortunately Osse is a Maia not a Vala (if only the question said 3 Ainur!)
This other one isn't very convincing either, but it's just the general earth, or Outer Lands (which we can splice from these quotes, which are close together):
"And thus it was by the power of Ulmo that even under the darkness of Melkor life coursed still through many secret lodes, and the Earth did not die; and to all who were lost in that darkness or wandered far from the light of the Valar the ear of Ulmo was ever open; nor has he ever forsaken Middle Earth..." "Yavanna also was unwilling to utterly forsake the Outer Lands; for all things that grow are dear to her, and she mourned for the works that she had begun in Middle Earth but Melkor had marred. Therefore leaving the house of Aule and the flowering meads of Valinor she would come at times and heal the hurts of Melkor..." "And Orome tamer of beasts would ride too at whiles in the darkness of the unlit forests; as a mighty hunter he came with spear and bow..."~All from The Sil, Of the Beginning of Days (one paragraph after the other. That's a mighty lot of quoting for a drill question it seems to me though...

Hmmm, not totally convinced about either - d**ned questions! I think Ezellohar might shade the other though. Pity it was Osse and not Ulmo involved in Numenor, otherwise that would've been eprfect.
Let's hope we get ours and a chance to steal on Lorien's. Speaking of which, I should start snooping for theirs.

Just found a quote that might be better than the last two I had for Ezellohar:
"Before its western gate there was a green mound, Ezellohar, that is named also Corollairë; and Yavanna hallowed it, and she sat there long upon the green grass and sang a song of power, in which she set all her thought of things that grow in the earth. But Nienna thought in silence, and watered the mound with tears." The Sil, Of the Beginning of Days

Yea, I had seen that. So you combine that with Melkor's touch and use it as our answer, is that the idea? That's the best I can see...

Yeah, that quote plus the Melkor one. Then we've only got 2 quotes instead of 3. Still not as ideal as 1, but even if it's not the expected answer I think the hoppits will be lenient and give us it.
And looking at the Lorien answer, I think someone's just had a blonde moment:
"Question: When may the lesser learn what will not be made know to the greater? Answer: Trolls"

Well, I'm going to post now, just to make sure we get an answer up - it'll be early morning my time when the deadline is here. Crossing fingers...

Can I just say that Hank kicks butt? Because it (he) does.

Well the Hobbits accepted our answer but the expected answer was Numenor! It doesn't make sense to me... but then, they are very small. Final scores: Lorien 8 Hank 4 Roll on round 4!

we still have to face them and let me tell you, they are small but very, very good with winning matches. anyway, I'm back. it sucks that we lost but we still have four matches to go and I'm sure we will win those. and lorien hadn't won any match yet so we were just being nice to them, right?
