Hmm, the eating part does sound hobbitish, but it's the tying up which is getting me

This look any good?
Frodo and Sam
"With green scarves the two guards now bound up the hobbits' eyes, and drew their hoods down almost to their mouths; then quickly they took each one by the hand and went on their way. All that Frodo and Sam knew of this last mile of the road they learned from guessing in the dark." TTT, The Window on the West
Do scarves count as hunter's clothes? Though they were presumably Mablung and Damrod's scarves, and they could be classed as hunters. Hunters, rangers, six and two threes.

Ok, got distracted by James May. E-mailed that as our answer as I don't think I for one am going to discover anything else in the next 30 minutes or so.

Cool, it was right1 As was Mordor's. Poo.
Next question is a cryptic one:
Before me is green. To my right water glitters. To my left the waters are dark. Where can I find gold?
Deadline: 9:54pm GMT / 1:54pm PT / 4:54pm DT
Going to have to do some serious brain-wracking for this one.

I'll settle for patting myself on the head. I'm trying to think of places with water lying on either side but not having much luck. The only thing I've really some across is to do with the Mirrormere: "To the east the outflung arm of the mountains marched to a sudden end, and far lands could be descried beyond them, wide and vague. To the south the misty Mountains receded endlessly as far as sight could reach. Less than a mile away, and a little below them, for they stood still high up on the west side of the dale, there lay a mere. It was long and oval, shaped like a great spear-head thrust deep into the northern glen; but its southern end was beyond the shadows under the sunlit sky. Yet its waters were dark: a deep blue like clear evening sky seen from a lamp-lit room. Its face was still and unruffled. About it lay a smooth sward, shelving down on all sides to its bare, unbroken rim. (...) They stooped over the dark water. At first they could see nothing. Then slowly they saw the forms of the encircling mountains mirrored in a profound blue, and the peaks were like plumes of white flame above them; beyond there was a space of sky. There like jewels sunk in the deep shone glinting stars, though sunlight was in the sky above. Of their own stooping forms no shadow could be seen. 'O Kheled-zaram fair and wonderful!' said Gimli. 'There lies the Crown of Durin till he wakes. Farewell!' He bowed and turned away, and hastened back up the green-sward to the road again. (...) The road now turned south and went quickly downwards, running out from between the arms of the dale. Some way below the mere they came on a deep well of fresh water, clear as crystal, from which a freshet fell over a stone lip and ran glistening and gurgling down a steep rocky channel. 'Here is the spring from which the Silverlode rises,' said Gimli. 'Do not drink of it! It is icy cold.' FotR, Lothlorien I'm not too sure if the directions match up to the question. The green would be the green-sward, the dark water the Mirrormere lake, and the glittering water the Silverlode river. The gold would be Durin's crown, which is seen when you look into the Mirrormere or Kheled-zaram. The quotes to get all of that lined up are a bit tortuous though, but it seems that that's the way they're going for this drill match. Heading to bed now but I'll keep thinking tomorrow while I'm at work. I've got an early finish so I'll be hopping back online as soon as I'm done with the grocery shopping.

Bah, we lost! =(
Elendil wants to know if we're appealing, and I know he wants to get through that quickly if we are, so what do you think? If we do appeal, on what grounds?
Now personally I object to the fact that we're just assuming that the grass is green with no supporting quotes or dictionary definitions, but I doubt that would make much of an appeal! *g*

Darn it. I thought the answer I came up with was too complex for its own good and I missed / didn't think of the Lorien quote. Bleh.
Don't think it's worth appealing now I've seen the answer and compared it to what I sent in. We still did a splendid job of getting this far. Go Hank!
