I thought Turin for Fangy's. Or maybe Hurin? Someone from the Sil, I think.
As for ours, Luthien seems to fit well but we need the 'sounding of instruments' part. I'll start searching.

Hmm, we might be able to cobble together something for Luthien from Strider's rendition in FotR:
"Tinuviel was dancing there To music of a pipe unseen, And light of stars was in her hair, And in her raiment glimmering.
(...)
He saw the elven flowers spring About her feet, and healed again He longed by her to dance and sing" FotR, A Knife in the Dark
Still checking to see whether it could be Yavanna but nothing so far.

Ducky's Gwindor hunch for Fangorn's question looks to be right: "Then Gwindor said to Túrin: 'Let bearing pay for bearing! But ill-fated was mine, and vain is thine; for my body is marred beyond healing, and I must leave Middle-earth. And though I love thee, son of Húrin, yet I rue the day that I took thee from the Orcs.'" The Sil, Of Túrin Turambar

I've been sniffing around, and I don't think there's any Yavanna reference that would work--I think that Luthien quote looks pretty good too. I'll keep looking though, my mind seems to be nagging me.

The only problem with the Luthien quotes I have up there are that the music is playing first of all, then later in the song the flowers bloom as she dances - the two don't seem to coincide. I double-checked the Sil and can't find anything else for Luthien or Yavanna so I think we can rule out the latter.

yeah, I checked for Yavanna as well and couldn't find anything. I have a gut feeling it's luthien. the second quote looks a lot better than mine does so we can already forget that one. I think it definitely has to be an elf or valar, no other creature can make flowers bloom while dancing right? I'll think about it but I'm going to go to bed pretty soon and tomorrow I won't be back home from school until the deadline is passed so if I can't find anything anymore, good luck finding the answer.

A thought - Goldberry? Having a look now...
<<timeloop - Nope, nothing there. Luthien's looking our best option so far. >>

How about this: "But as the host of Fingolfin marched into Mithrim the Sun rose flaming in the West; and Fingolfin unfurled his blue and silver banners, and blew his horns, and flowers sprang beneath his marching feet; and the ages of the stars were ended." The Sil, Of the Return of the Noldor
We have both the horns and the flowers all neatly packaged in that quote, and occuring at the same time, which we've struggled to find for Luthien.

I know this sounds super competitive (and maybe it is) but the Shire is currently losing their match to Imladris, and they're in first place...pray they lose, and then lose again when we face them next week...that could put us in the lead, possibly!

Posted! Still have over 12 hours before the deadline but I tend to get distracted, so it's out of the way now.
Had a peek at the Shire match and it looks like the Hobbits are going to get the next question ruled incorrect. Imladris put a steal up but it's after the deadline. Still, Elves should be ahead which is good for us!

Actually, my mistake, steal deadline is plus 12 hours so Rivvy could steal a march on the Hobbitses after all.

Kingo that is supercompetitive. and we don't need to be on the first place to win the entire competition. we need to be one of the first four, then we go to the semifinals and if we win then we're in the finals and if we lose we're out. getting the first place would be great but we don't need to be there. we just need to win as many matches as possible and get as high as we can.

Ah right, so the Drill league format is pretty much the same as Debate then. If the first placed team plays fourth placed, and second plays third in the playoffs then there's still an advantage to be had in coming in first.
How did last year's At Large team fare?
