First questions! Hank Question I: What famous relic revealed the identity of a captain in hiding? Imladris Question I: What, excepting water, ran both ways along the river? Aragorn springs to mind for ours - the Palantir? - though it seems a bit obvious. Not that we mind obvious questions! Rivvy's... hmm... the trade between Lake-town and the Wood Elves and the Hobbits?

I think the answer to our question is the pieces of Narsil. that sword was famous and it was how aragorn revealed himself to the hobbits. or maybe it's his ring. just to be sure, I'll think about other captains in hiding ( if there are any) before we completely focus on Aragorn. rivvy's answer has to be answer you thought of Elarith. btw, I think we have earned a price for most original thread names.

Oh yes, our thread names are amazing. Too bad we can't use them as the title of the thread, LOL. Anyway, I was thinking Aragorn for sure, but perhaps his Elendilmir, or his banner with the seven stars that he unfurls at the Battle of the Pelennor. Any one of the answers so far could probably work, if there is a simple quote for it.

It could be Turin and Dragon helm of Dor-Lomin.

Ooh, hadn't thought of the Dragon-helm but that's definitely possible, Narthol. Another one for Aragorn - the Ring of Barahir was another sign of his lineage.
I mis-typed earlier when on about the Rivvy answer - should be 'in The Hobbit' rather than 'and the hobbits.'
Going to check for quotes and things whilst watching 'House'.

I don't have Silmarillion right now but I thought that it could also be Tuor when he came to Gondolin wearing Turgon's armor left in Nevrast.

Checked the Sil and the Dragon-helm looks like a good answer with this quote:
"In Menegroth, and in the deep halls of Nargothrond, and even in the hidden realm of Gondolin, the fame of the deeds of the Two Captains was heard; and in Angband also they were known. Then Morgoth laughed, for now by the Dragon-helm was Húrin's son revealed to him again; and ere long Amon Rûdh was ringed with spies." The Sil, Of Túrin Turambar

Ohoho! Good job Narthol and Elarith. That one can definitely work.

Don't think we're going to find a better answer than that. I did have a look through FotR for Aragorn stuff but didn't find anything.
Narthol, do you want to go ahead and post it, assuming everyone else is happy with it?
Going to have a look for Rivvy answers now in case we get a steal!

No, you just post it cause you find the quote and I'm not so good in writing big posts. haha maybe next time.

Heh, all right then, though they don't have to be big posts - I only do a line or 2 of RP, then answer plus quote and that's it. You're posting next time, Narthol.

ACK! I'm really really sorry team - I intended to post later last night but ended up falling asleep. ARGH! *beats self senseless*
So Rivvy shamelessly stole our answer because Ducky's post was 15 minutes late. Phil's not too happy about it but they're within the rules so... *sighes*
Well, we're on the back-foot now. Next questions:
Hank Question II: Who announced his presence in a form widely understood? Imladris Question II: Who spoke only another's language, yet did not forget their own?
Err... no real ideas for ours.
Rivvy's... the Noldor's language was banned by Thingol so they learned the Silvan tongue but Quenya was still remembered.
