I'm here and looking now. Had a big exam yesterday so sorry I wasn't much use for a couple of days.

I'm drawing a blank so far, I've found a couple of references to pople feeling young at old things though ... shame we can't change the question *g*

Hehe, yeah, changing the question would solve a lot of difficulties!
I found something about Bilbo feeling old at the start of LotR but it never says what the cause was - though the Ring is implied - and I didn't think we could get away with it.
Rivvy have a little over 2 hours to steal and draw level... *crosses fingers* At any rate, it'll be interesting to see what the answer was.

Rivvy have said the Ring with Gollum as the person. If they do get awarded the steal, I think we have grounds to appeal because their answer says nothing about Gollum feeling old all of a sudden. Neither does the text preceeding the quote, either.

Well Rivvy were awarded it but it wasn't the original answer.
Elerina, are you around to e-mail in a challenge to that steal being awarded? Or Helekwen even if you're about?
Imladris Question #5 ~ Who looked like an insect in the dark? Team Hank Question #5 ~ Who recalled one Elf's advice before sleep?
Could be Sam... could be Frodo after the meeting with Gildor... will think on it.

I found this but I don't know does it fit.
"You are a set of deceitful scoundrels!", he said turning to the others. "But bless you!" he laughed, getting up and waving his arms, "I give in. I will take Gildor's advice. If the danger were not so dark, I should dance for joy. Even so, I cannot help feeling happy; happier than I have felt for a long time. I had dreaded this evening".

"Hullo!" said Merry. 'So that's what is bothering you? Now, Pippin my lad, don't forget Gildor's saying--the one Sam used to quote: Do not meddle in the affairs of Wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.'" ~The Palantir, TTT
And to prove they are just before sleep...
"The rest, after they had supped, wrapped themselves in a cloak and blanket and slept. The hobbits lay in a corner by themselves upon a pile of old bracken. Merry was sleepy, but Pippin now seemed curiously restless." ~ibid, the page before
Whatcha think, it'll work?
As for Narthol's, I'm not entirely sure it will work, because the next page after his quote it says "But in that case there are a lot of things to do before we go to bed"...context, to me, doesn't seem to support it, though it is technically before bed. *shrugs* It's possible there are other options too.

I think the Merry answer is looking very good.
For the 'before sleep' part - maybe this bit about a page after the main quote instead: "Pippin said no more. He lay still now, but sleep remained far away; and it was not encouraged by the sound of Merry breathing softly, asleep in a few minutes after saying good night."
Obviously Pippin is not asleep, but Merry was the one who remembered Gildor's advice and he is asleep soon after.
Been digging for Rivendell's, Gollum could be it: "Sam looked and breathed in sharply through his teeth. 'Ssss!' he said. 'That's what it is. It's that Gollum! Snakes and adders! And to think I thought that we'd puzzle him with our bit of a climb! Look at him! Like a nasty crawling spider on a wall.'
Down the face of the precipice, sheer and almost smooth in the pale moonlight, a small black shape was moving with its thin limbs splayed out." TTT, The Taming of Sméagol
Spiders count as insects, right?

They technically don't, actually, though Nienna may think they do... And that second quote looks like excellent support. Helekwen is sending in the challenge, btw. *thumbs up and crossed fingers, resulting in odd looking hands*

Woot for appealing!
Well, spiders are insecty-type things... they have more than 4 legs, that counts as insecty to me.

True, in fact that's probably what she's looking for...I would just love to be able to shoot down the answer on dictionary definitions.

helekwen, thanks for appealing. I didn't see your pm until today. I'm really sorry for not being here but RL is extremely busy at the moment. I'm working on my researchproject now and that means spending a lot of time behind a computer. and when I have been staring at a screen for an entire day, I'm really not in the mood anymore to visit plaza or any other sites.

Apparently Nienna has replied to the e-mail Hele sent.
If the 'spider-as-insect' is a flaw in Nienna's question and Gollum is the right answer then unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it. If not, we can fire away!
Someone up for posting our answer? Ducky?

Elerina, don't worry about it, RL is always more important *hugs*
Ok, here's what Nienna replied:
Heya, Hele!
Trust me, I'm still "fighting" with Immy captains about my decision on their first question. Who could have thought that Elves were so stubborn? Lol. Anyway, I thank you for bringing your complains to me. I have read carefully their quote once again, and once again, and once again...
Well, Gollum "suddenly" felt old when he lost the Ring - he didn't feel old when he possessed the Ring. That's the reason why I found their quote acceptable and good enough. However, as Iluve said in the match thread, I'm pretty sure that you can only appeal decisions on your own answers. Gotta ask Elendil about this, though. *g*
Cheers, Nini
As to the current questions... The Merry answer with Elarith's sleeping quote looks good; and I think we've probably hit on the right answer for the steal ( I know spiders are arachnids, but I personally tend to count them as insects *g*)

Still no idea where Nienna gets this 'suddenly' aging from. But if she's correct and we can't appeal against the steal's acceptance anyway then it's a moot point. *shrugs*
